It’s Time to Say Farewell to the Fourth Floor
It’s check-out day at the hotel. Sadly, this also means it’s time to leave Nikki and my south Florida bunch… until I return next winter.
In a short while, I’ll be on my way to northeast Florida.
Before I leave Homestead Florida…
I usually stop at Nikki’s house for a quick visit before I head out of the city. But the property she lives at just sprayed the lawn.
With my MCS, it’s not safe for me to go there today.
So this time, Nikki is coming to the hotel to help me get packed up and ready to roll before I hop in the driver’s seat and hit the Florida Turnpike heading north.
Leaving my winter retreat is always bitter-sweet…
Nikki and I talk or text every day no matter how many miles are between us. But I’ll miss hanging out with her and the gang in-person and our fun Florida adventures.
On the other hand, dealing with the Hades-like south Florida summer heat and humidity is not my cup of tea and I’m glad I won’t have to endure it.
Today’s drive will be unusually long…
My rule of thumb is to drive around 3 hours before stopping at a campground to stay a couple days or more.
But I wasn’t able to reserve a campground a few hours north of here on the route I like to take. That’s what happens when making plans at the last minute. It doesn’t always pan out but I’ve learned to be flexible… sometimes with a twist of grumpiness, sometimes not 🙄
Today’s journey will be about 6 hours on the road… depending on how many pit stops I make to stretch my legs, grab a bite to eat, answer the call of Nature, and maybe stroll a sandy beach or two.
I like to take scenic highway A1A for part of the journey…
This adds more travel time but it’s well worth it! I usually cross over to A1A shortly before Flagler Beach, taking the scenic route until I hit St Augustine.
Driving alongside the Atlantic ocean on A1A, with windows wide open, breathing the sea air, is something I love to do. The deep, unyielding ocean gives peaceful vibes that I just can’t pass up 💕
Parting thoughts…
I enjoyed staying at the extended stay hotel this year. I’m glad I followed thru with my last minute inner-urge to change my routine.
I’ll miss My Morning Ritual from the Fourth Floor and visits from My Fourth Floor Peeping Tom… but new memories are waiting to be made.
And now, it’s time to get on down the road and back to my van life groove!
